	<title>Frank Teger: Been visiting MV for about 15 years, This particular year, my Goal was to be in the moment every minute of this day, I wanted to start the day off by catching a SUnrise and end the day watching the sunset in Menemsha. Staying in Katama allowed me to get up early enough before the sun came up over Edgartown</title>

Creative inspiration appeals to the &quot;eye&quot; of the beholder by appealing to all aspects of their soul. This is a living place, more than a garden, more than a pool, more than a stream. It invokes peace while everything grows. Seasons change to a sacred pace. Here is a small area to find the earth's pulse.</title>

	<title>Adam Mignanelli: I have spend many summers visiting good friends on Herring Creek Farm, before my parents purchased their dream home here over a year ago. This farm was partly the convincing moment for my parents to buy, as well as a beautiful setting for many long afternoons and magical nights during hy high school years, up to adulthood. I shot this photo on a bike ride to the beach, stopping to feed the miniature horse that grazed the fields of the farm. The curious pink nose pushed up against the fence was a moment stopped in time. The blur of the whiskers and the sharp rust of the fence gave my composition strength in the split second that I captured on the farm.</title>

	<title>Ben Wolkowitz: This boat was in a backwater in Menemsha. To be precise it was off the right side of bridge that you go over to get to the public beach. It was a bright but overcast morning. Amidst all the activity, fishing boats and yachts I was attracted to this quiet area with this humble boat. The bridge railings provided convenient support and I took approximately 25 pictures of this scene over two separate visits. I prefer the light and angle of view on this one.
Technically It was shot RAW at focal length 60, 1/80s at f 4.8 with the ISO set at 200.</title>

	<title>George H. Shattuck III: I was fortunate to capture this image at the end a sunrise shoot at Squibnocket Beach one August day last year. The beach had been shrouded in fog all morning but in an instant, the sky opened allowing the illumination of the shore. Happily, I was already set up on my tripod. I quickly turned my attention to the light and captured the moment. The sky closed just as quickly as it had opened and the light was gone... Truly a gift.

This image was captured digitally in &quot;RAW&quot; format and converted to B&amp;W in post processing. I added some extra contrast to the image to give the wet sand and fog above more &quot;pop&quot;, then cropped the image into square format.

	<title>David J. Toman: My family likes to launch our ancient Boston Whaler on Edgartown Great Pond from an access point of Meetinghouse Rd. and putt-putt to South Beach. On a lovely sunny day in mid-September we packed up the boat with beach things, two nets, and a bucket in case we could catch some crabs. Within seconds of beacing the boat and securing the anchor in the sand my wife and I had each caught a crab.

For this photo I used a medium format camera with Kodak Ektacolor Pro 160 film. The sailboat in the background and the simple joy of catching our own dinner give it a timelessness for me that could just as easily have dated from my youth.</title>

	<title>Barbara Berresford: In November, we were driving along Moshup Trail after the sun had set. I thought my picture-taking was over for the day, but when we passed the dunes at Philbin Beach and I noticed the figures outlined against the sky, my obliging husband pulled over to let me try to capture the scene. As I was composing the picture, I noticed the pine tree and decided to get it in the frame. I like this picture because, unless you notice the sea in the distance,you could imagine yourself in a desert somewhere in the Southwest.</title>

	<title>Gertrude &quot;Gee Gee&quot; Barden: &quot;On the Path to Moshup Beach&quot;
On this trip to Moshup Beach (8-15-10) I was taking some pictures of the wonderful path that leads from the parking lot to the beach, hoping to use one as a subject for a watercolor painting. Relatives I was with caught up to and passed me as I was taking the pictures, so I included them in some of the shots.

In this picture I love the fence and how its curve and the path beckon to the destination and experience that await, which are subtly foreshadowed by the tiny figures already on the beach visible at the upper left of the picture. Although we who walk this path may appear outwardly calm, inside there is a secret excitement, as we know that we are among the fortunate ones on our way to paradise!</title>

On this trip to Moshup Beach (8-15-10)our family group opted to settle down very near where the path from the parking lot ends, rather than continue on down the beach in search of the perfect spot. Our location happened to include a large previously dug hole in the sand a short distance in front of us. This picture was taken shortly after my little grandnephew Oliver discovered the hole and jumped into it, his face and body language clearly reflecting the joyful exultation of the moment.</title>

	<title>Ben Wolkowitz: Taken on the North Shore within a short walk of the Menemsha Harbor. It had been an overcast day in early September, but late in the afternoon the clouds began to break a bit letting some blue to show through.
I like this photograph because the clouds had just broken enough to permit a scatter of the sun's rays over the water while the water and the rocks nearer to where I was standing were still unaffected. I liked the transition in the day.
Also the pattern of the clouds, shoreline and rocks seemed to work together whereas from other locations they appeared much less integrated.</title>

	<title>Lisa Vanderhoop: This is a photo of a 30 foot Basking Shark that had beached itself on Philbin Beach in Aquinnah. Basking Sharks are the second largest fish in the ocean. We happened upon this sonewhat surreal scene while walking with my friend's dog, Senge, a Weimaraner pup. To our astonishment no one else was around and the dog investigating this huge creature gives it an almost otherwordly sense of scale. It was determined later that this had been a healthy male basking shark that had gotten caught in a very strong, turbulent tidal current (during a full moon tide) and just simply got caught in water that was too shallow and couldn't get out. So it basically drowned because it couldn't get enough water over it's gills. A very sad end to such a magestic and gentle giant.
 This photo was taken with a Nikon D300 camera and Nikkor 18-200mm lens. I like this photo because it just startles you I think, especially because you get the size and scope of the basking shark because the Weimaraner pup is next to it. It's not a sight you see everyday, thank goodness.</title>

I like the colors and reflections of the cabin lights and the boats on the water. During the exposure a boat moved through the frame creating the ripple in the water, but the boat did not show up in the final image. Image was straightened in CS5.</title>

	<title>Peter Dreyer: &quot;Home from the Sea&quot; is a quote from Robert Louis Stevenson's Requiem. The photo (c)2004 was taken off Meshacket Rd., somewhere between Road to the Plains and Island Grove. It was shot on 4x5 Kodak T-Max film and printed in a traditional darkroom on 11x14&quot; photographic paper.

I like the photo because it shows an old boat not abandoned near the sea, but in an incongruous resting place high among trees and plants. In general, I prefer black-&amp;-white to color photography because I tend toward abstraction, and the absence of color is one step in that direction. Moreover, I prefer working in b&amp;w because I have control over the printing process, which offers interpreting a scene in different ways by cropping as well as highlighting certain details and de-emphasizing others.</title>

	<title>Peter Dreyer: &quot;Edgartown Light with Gull&quot;

Standing on the observation deck on Memorial Wharf, I noticed the spilings on a pier below. I thought they would make a good foreground and counterpoint to the white lighthouse. I shot this photo from the backyard of a home on North Water Street after getting permission.

I liked the way the gentle curve of the ropes is a counterpoint to the straight spilings, and that the theme of the ropes is repeated by the one on the far left that in a way completes the missing upward curve of the big ropes. The sea gull is an added bonus and it is looking just in the right direction, toward the center of attention--the lighthouse. (The gull took off before I could get another shot.)

The photo was shot on 4x5 Kodak T-Max film and printed in a traditional darkroom on 11x14&quot; photographic paper. I prefer working in b&amp;w to color photography because my taste tends toward abstraction, and the absence of color is one step in that direction. Moreover, I prefer working in b&amp;w because I keep control over the printing process, which offers interpreting a scene in different ways by cropping as well as highlighting certain details and de-emphasizing others.</title>

If the sunset doesn't look promising at Menemsha Beach I will ofen walk up Basin Road to the Bridge over Menemsha Creek. There is often a few people leaning over the railing on the bridge, looking for any possible activity in the creek. One evening I was rewarded with a Norman Rockwell view of two young children fishing off the bridge. Both are intent on the moment of catching a fish. A breeze softly curled the young girl's dress which added to the urgency of the task.

	<title>Bob Provost: Title: Lucy Vincent Beach

I visited Lucy Vincent Beach the day after a major storm this past October. The surf was exceptionally turbulent which allowed beautiful patterns to form alon the shore as the waves receded back to the ocean. There was a severe problem with over exposure as the sun was quite bright in a cloudless sky. I began to decrease the exposure which dramatically enhanced the appearance of the wave patterns. After a large number of exposures which were not memorable, this particular wave configuration was dramatic in its presentation.

	<title>Iris A. Stein: I love this wonderful picture of my grandson, William, taken in August at State Beach. You can see the reflections of his grandmother and the colorful umbrella in his sunglasses. Happy!</title>

	<title>Lynn Buckmaster-Irwin: I think it is unique, strange, and beautiful. We love the arboretum and I think of it as our big backyard. Every time you visit, there is something new and fascinating to see..like this magnolia seed pod.</title>

	<title>Leigh B. Smith: Water is ready for runners at stop on Franklin Street, Vineyard Haven, July 4, 2010.

I like helping to hand water to those in Murdick's Round the Chop race yearly July 4th Weekend. The stand is near our house, and I had filled some cups ahead of time. Anticipation!</title>

	<title>Judy Oliver: The phot, taken in our yard, shows an antique sled decorated with a red bow and ice skates. The picture was taken the day after the recent December snow storm. It reminds me of happy times spent sledding and skating as a child.</title>
